Ruth was born July 11, 1925 in Vigo County to William Millette and Elizabeth (Monroe) Millette. She is survived by a nephew, Steven Collins and his wife Carole of Terre Haute; nieces, Nikki Fox of FL and Terry Hardy and her husband Richard of Brazil; great-nieces, Nikki Russell and her husband Mark of MI, Shelly Swinford and her husband Randy of CT, Sherri Harris and her husband William of NC, and Staci Collins-Pearce of GA; great great-nephews, Drew Swinford, Alex Swinford, and Garrett Harris; great great-nieces, Megan Harris, Jennifer Uhl and her husband Stephen, and Norma Jane Pearce; great great great-niece, Ellie Uhl and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cathryn and Robert Sinders of Brazil. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Higgins, who died February 16, 1997. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and was an avid dog lover. Visitation will be Saturday December 27, 2014 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm in DeBaun Funeral Home, Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. with funeral services at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will be in Clearview Cemetery in Brazil. The family suggests that for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society (envelopes will be available at the funeral home)

Dorothy E. Etling, 83, of Terre Haute, Indiana, formerly of Millstadt, Illinois went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2014. She was born in Millstadt, Illinois on January 8, 1931 to the late David and Edna (Mueller) Krick. She married Homer Etling on May 13, 1951. Dorothy was a homemaker and also helped her husband with farming duties. She was often in the fields and during harvest, hauled truck loads of grain to Handy Feed and Grain in Millstadt, Illinois. She also loved to sew and was an avid furniture refinisher. She loved to go to local auctions, purchasing antiques that had seen better days, restoring them to beautiful pieces, many of which remain in the family. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Floraville, Illinois, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a devoted Christian and a firm believer in our Lord, Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband, Homer Etling; two daughters Susan Garland (Larry) of Millstadt, Illinois and Gwen Wessel (Glenn) of Terre Haute, Indiana; three granddaughters Sarah D’Atri (Joshua) of Millstadt, Illinois, Adrienne Polite (Nathan) of Marietta, Georgia, and Amanda Metternich of Indianapolis, Indiana; four great grandchildren Olivia and Emma D’Atri and Mia and Max Polite. She was preceded in death by her parents David and Edna Krick; two sisters Pearl Scharf (Edgar) and Mabel Slinkard (Don); brother Harold Krick, who passed away at infancy; her beloved grandson Joshua Garland; and nieces and nephews. Per Dorothy’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service to honor her life will be held at a later date in St. Paul United Church of Christ in Floraville, Illinois. Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff at Springhill Village in Terre Haute, Indiana for their wonderful, loving care during Dorothy’s 12 day stay with them; also Gentiva Hospice of Terre Haute, Indiana for their kind and exceptional service. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s memory to St. Paul United Church of Christ in Floraville, Illinois. Eleanor was born October 5, 1931 in Sullivan, IN to Charles Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Ready) Thomas. She is survived by daughters, Donna Strain and her husband William of Terre Haute, Debra Stecker-Lewis and her husband John of Terre Haute, and Rhonda Wolf and her husband John of Kingman, IN; a son, Darrell Norris and his wife Miryam of Woodbridge, VA; sisters, Ernestine Burton of Crown Point, IN, Brenda Clark of Coalmont, and Geraldine Kiger of Terre Haute; a brother, Bob Clark of Coalmont; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wright of Shelburn; 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles A. Norris, who died September 7, 1995, sisters, Jean Wilkinson, Patricia Turley, Phyllis Clark, Elizabeth Clark, Lindel Smith, and Mary Clark; and brothers, Buck Thomas and Charles Thomas. Eleanor loved to bake for the Prairieton Fire Department She also loved to crochet and listening to country music. Visitation will be Wednesday December 31, 2014 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm in DeBaun Funeral Home, Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. with funeral services at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Reverend Allissa Williams officiating. Burial will be in Pogue Cemetery.

Sotak, Emil photoEmil G. Sotak, 91, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday December 27, 2014 at 11:30 pm in Meadows Manor North. He retired after man years as a bookkeeper for Froehde Mobile Homes. Emil was born February 15, 1923 in Terre Haute to George Sotak and Barbara (Nagy) Sotak. He is survived by daughters, Vicki A. Ragle and husband John G., Jayne L. Sotak, and Lisa S. Sotak all of Terre Haute; granddaughters, Vanessa Prox and husband Bryan and Kristin Sullivan and husband Brian; great grandsons, Jack Prox and Chase Sullivan; sister-in-law, Alvena Sotak and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Norma Ruth (Hunter) Sotak, who died November 8, 2005; sister, Emma Evinger and brothers, Albert Sotak and Victor Sotak. He was a US Army veteran, having served in both WW II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Hungarian Hall. Emil will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and he well known for his ballroom dance ability. Visitation will be Tuesday December 30, 2014 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm in DeBaun Funeral Home, Wabash Avenue Chapel, 2425 Wabash Ave. Funeral services will be Wednesday December 31, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Father Bernie LaMontagne officiating. Georgia A. (Brown) Coon, 77, formerly of Terre Haute passed away on December 30, 2014 in her home in Florida. She was born in Terre Haute on January 17, 1937 to Marvie and LeeAnne (Owen) Jenkins. She was a retired bus driver for Vigo County. She also enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with her family. She is survived by a daughter Teri Knever of New Symrna Beach, FL; a son Raymond (Mark) and Cinda Brown of Kokomo; a brother David Owen Jenkins of Terre Haute, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in her memory be made for breast cancer or ALS research. Graveside services will be on Saturday at Roselawn Memorial Park at 1 p.m.

Thelma Mae Thorlton, 83, of Terre Haute, passed away December 29, 2014 in Union Hospital. Thelma was born October 10, 1931 in Terre Haute to Joseph Kravets and Wreatha Dillinger Kravets. Thelma was a homemaker, attended Barbour Avenue United Methodist Church and loved spending time with her friends, children and grand children. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ronald Thorlton who passed away November 3, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Glenna Monroe and nephew, Steve Monroe. Thelma is survived by her sons: Kirk Thorlton and his wife, Brenda of Auburn, Kentucky and Todd Thorlton and his friend, Leigh Ball of Terre Haute; grandchildren: Kiel Thorlton and his wife Elizabeth of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Tori Thorlton of Terre Haute, Indiana, Nicklaus Thorlton and Amber Thorlton of Auburn, Kentucky; great granddaughter, Johby Thorlton; and nieces, Dru Ann Kirkham, Kim Monroe and Helen Monroe. She is also survived by her special friend, Mae Ferris of Terre Haute. Services will be Friday, January 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47804 with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time. On December 28, 2014, Mary Kathryn Thompson Muench, formerly of Terre Haute, went home to be with the Lord. She was born February 22, 1922, in Riley, Indiana, the only child of Eva (Crist) and Roy Thompson. At age 14 the family moved to Hymera where Kathryn met a young man who in 1946 became her husband, Raymond Eugene Muench, CPA who preceded her in death (‘78).   She attended Indiana State Teachers College, now ISU, receiving her degree in music, teaching in Vigo and Sullivan County and as a private piano instructor. Her passion was teaching class piano lessons. Many students, including her daughters, dedicated themselves to two classes weekly as she prepared them for a solid background in theory and piano. Cheryl, her daughter, became an outstanding church pianist, performing major solo works. A number of Kathryn’s students continued their studies as music majors in college, including daughter Rhonda who has bachelor and master degrees in music and holds the prestigious National Board Certificated Teaching credentials in music education. Kathryn was an active member of Bible Baptist Church where she loved playing for services and the music honorary, Sigma Alpha Iota. In her later years, a high school friendship was rekindled with Robert Gouckenour. They were extremely close, enjoying each other’s company and many wonderful times together for over 10 years. He too preceded her in death. In 2009, with health failing, she moved to an assisted living unit in Virginia, closer to granddaughters Shannon and Brandy and in the spring of 2014, to a nursing home in Kentucky close to granddaughter Amy and daughter Cheryl. She spent her last years close to her family in Virginia and Kentucky and visits from family in Texas, bringing her much joy and comfort, as she watched her many great-grandchildren being brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Many heartfelt thanks to Cheryl, Amy, Shannon, and Brandy for their tireless work in caring, comforting, and overseeing her affairs the last 5 years. She is survived by 2 daughters, 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, they are as follows: Cheryl (Muench) and Randy Gilbert of Lawrenceburg, KY and their 4 children Brandy, Shannon, Amy and Dustin. Brandy and Scott Hine of Fredericksburg, VA and their children, Devon 13, Brooklyn 10, Sydney 6, and Grayson 2.   Shannon and John Hill of Spotsylvania, VA and their children Payton 8, Cole 4, Adalyn 2½, and Ella 1. Amy and Luke Cook of Harrodsburg, KY and their children Garrett 4, Isabel 3, Sophia 1½ and Isaac 4 mo.   Dustin and Hannah Gilbert of Lawrenceburg, KY and their children, Madison 8, Brayden 2 and Brandalynn 8 mo. Rhonda Muench Bliss, NBCT of Duncanville, TX and her 4 children, Stephanie, Gregory, David, and Jeffrey. Stephanie and Kenny Robinson and their children Andrew 11 and Reid 31/2 of Kyle, TX, Gregory Bliss of Carlsbad, CA, David Bliss of Oceanside, CA, and Jeffrey Bliss of Duncanville, TX.

A funeral service will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, Terre Haute, IN at 11:00 am on January 3, 2015. A visitation will be held at the chapel from 10:00-11:00 am on the same day. Burial will follow at Farmersburg West Lawn Cemetery, 11615 North Westwood Drive, Farmersburg, IN

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to The Lighthouse Mission Ministries, 1450 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Betty Jane Lawry, 92, of Terre Haute passed away on December 24, 2014. She was born on August 25, 1922 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Emil J. Schlup Sr. and Hazel Marie (Witham) Schlup. Betty was a member of the German Oberlander Club for many years. After retiring from Columbia Records she was a foster grandparent at Ryves Hall. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, and gardening. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Homer E. Lawry, brothers Charles Schlup, Emil Schlup Jr., Steve Schlup, a sister Elnora Copra and a granddaughter, Julie Appleman. She is survived by her son John Lawry and his wife JoAnn, of Crossville, Tennessee; daughter Judy Tompkins and her husband Orville, of Terre Haute, Indiana; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47804, at 12:00 p.m. Paul Bertsch will be officiating. vaziri, judy obit photoJudith (Judy) A. Vaziri died peacefully Dec. 31, 2014 at home. She was born to the late Arlene and Alvin Yeager November 9, 1941. A long time resident of Terre Haute, Judy graduated from State High and attended Indiana State University. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Mehdi, son Javad of St. Louis, MO and daughter Christine (Christy) of Terre Haute. She is also survived by brother David (Loretta) Yeager, sister Jayne (Stephen) Snoddy, in-laws Hamid, Majid, Fazollah, Alireza and Maryam Vaziri, Vaziri family members in Tehran, Iran and Canada, the Sizdahkhani and Golbadi families in Virginia as well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Judy retired from Columbia Records, became known as the “flower lady” when working for Great Scot and retired recently from Kroger. Her lifetime love of plants and flowers was exhibited in her yard, also known as the plant orphanage because she often rescued plants and flowers destined for the trash pile. She also had a heart for animals and the number of strays she brought home are too numerous to count. She had a passion for genealogy and tracing her family roots. Her greatest joy, though, was through her children whom she adored beyond measure. She leaves a legacy of love, family, fun and laughter and will be greatly missed. Services will be January 3 at 1 p.m., DeBaun Funeral Home on E. Springhill Dr. in Terre Haute, with visitation at 12:00 p.m. Interrment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute

Ivan Wilkinson of Terre Haute died at the age of 91 on January 1, 2015. He was a self-made businessman and entrepreneur. His reputation grew in Terre Haute as the owner of Parks Purity Pie Company. He grew the business from 3 to 31 employees between 1948 and 1980. His long stint in business created many job opportunities and formed many lifelong friendships. He was a fabulous dancer and long time fan of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race. Ivan was preceded in death by his first wife Myra and his second wife Edna; five sisters: Thelma Archer, Vyrl Lynch, Delta Frazier, Gladys Peperak, Dolly Jones and nephew Donald Peperak. He is survived by his son Mark Wilkinson of Terre Haute and his daughter Michelle Cripe of Florida; nieces Betty Heck of Terre Haute, Deborah Jones of Arizona, Phyllis Peperak, Darlene Rankin, & Sharon Wilson of Anderson, IN. Also surviving from his first marriage is step-daughter Lenny Sharper of Florida and granddaughter Desiree Johnson of Florida. He was loved and will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Steve Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 12 Noon – 1:00 PM in DeBaun Springhill Chapel.
