hofmann, robert photoRobert Earl Hofmann, 88, of Farmersburg passed away Monday January 5, 2015 at 10:49 am in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Robert was a retired rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service for over 30 years and was also a farmer. He was born June 14, 1926 in Terre Haute to Conrad Hofmann and Eva O. (Hathorne) Hofmann. Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Golden Nadine (Stuffle) Hofmann; a daughter, Cynthia Hofmann of Terre Haute; a son, Robert Earl Hofmann II of Bloomington; 3 grandchildren, Courtney Parris, Jennifer Butts, and Chad Butts; 2 step-grandchildren, Teresa Pirtle and Thomas Pirtle; 2 great grandchildren, Madison Costantino and John Patrick Felix Butts, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Fern Higginbotham and Lois Durham and a brother, Huey Hofmann. Robert was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WW II. He was a member of the Lawton-Byrum Post #972 VFW, and the Riley American Legion Post #328. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge. He loved to breed Angus Beef, he enjoyed gardening, being outdoors and spending time with his family. Visitation will be Wednesday January 7, 2015 from 11:30 am until 2:30 pm in DeBaun Funeral Homes, Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr with funeral services at 2:30 pm in the funeral home with Reverend Ed Gladish officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors.

dunbar, james photoJim Dunbar, 74, died at Union Hospital on Saturday, January 3, 2015. Jim was born in Terre Haute, IN on December 3, 1940 to Gertrude Schott Dunbar and James H. Dunbar. He graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in 1959 and from Indiana State University with a degree in life science.
Jim worked at the old Standard Grocery Store on Lafayette Ave to put himself through school. He also worked for Dr. David Johnson while at ISU. Jim served for six years with the Indiana Army National Guard, 38th Supply and Transport Battalion.
Jim worked a few years at ISU in housing and food service; he helped open the new Lincoln Quad complex in 1969 and accepted the positions of Complex Manager and Food Service Manager. Jim went on to work at and retire from Johns Dental Laboratories.
Jim married June Morrison in New Market, IN on June 30, 1973. She survives as does their son Clay M. Dunbar (Sarah) and one granddaughter Ava Michelle Dunbar of Terre Haute. Other survivors include his brothers of Terre Haute Bill (Marty) Dunbar and Tom (Bev) Dunbar. He is also survived by one brother-in-law Gail Morrison (Judi) of Plainfield, IN. Other survivors include nieces Carrie Stedman, Cristie Hoggatt, Julie Dunbar; nephews Jeff and Jay Dunbar and Craig and Lucas Morrison and many cousins and great nieces and nephews as well as many close friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law Betty Morrison of New Market.
Jim was a member of the Tuesday morning Exchange Club of Terre Haute years ago. After the group disbanded a small group continued to meet for breakfast for over 25 years. Jim also enjoyed his Wednesday morning breakfast club with local friends. Through the years Jim served on various committees and boards. He served on the Wabash Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross Board for several years, even serving as Board Chairman. He worked with vocational education committees with the Vigo County School Corporation and served as a community member on the committee responsible for the location of three schools built in Vigo County in the 1980s – Farrington Grove, Sugar Grove and Davis Park. Jim was active in the Indiana State Dental Laboratory Association for many years.
Jim became interested in learning to carve wooden bowls by hand; no power tools. He took classes from Blaine Berry and enjoyed the friendship of numerous woodworkers. Jim’s favorite pastime through the years was cooking large quantities of food for big groups of people. He truly enjoyed cooking over open fires and coals with his iron pots. He used to cook wild game at the Wilderness Shop on the first day of deer season. For a while his wild game recipes were featured in the Tribune Star. Jim also volunteered his time and skills at the Pioneer Village at Fowler Park. Jim was happiest spending time at the family farm. While walking there he often said that the woods is God’s church. He accepted Christ into his life in 2002.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wabash Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross at 700 South 3rd Street, Terre Haute 47807; the Wabash Valley Community Foundation at 2901 Ohio Blvd., Suite 153 Terre Haute 47805, or to a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be Thursday January 8, 2015 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm in DeBaun Funeral Homes, Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. with funeral services on Friday January 9, 2015 at 10:30 am in the funeral home with Reverend Steve Moore officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery.

Mary I. McDaniel, 87, of Terre Haute passed away January 6, 2015. She was born on June 20, 1927 to Seth and Leatha Clark. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, redecorating her home and also enjoyed crocheting. Mrs. McDaniel retired after many years at Bemis Corporation. She is survived by her daughter, Terri Manning, her son Jeffrey McDaniel and his wife Brenda , a son-in-law Skip Hedden, five grandchildren Morgan McDaniel, April Manning and Shawn Doan, Kevin Bartow and Jodie Payton, Kyle Bartow, and Vito Bugni and a great-grandchild Taylor Bartow. She was preceded in death by a son, Randy B. McDaniel in 2002, a daughter Toni Hedden in 2014, and a son-in-law Jerry Manning in 2006. Funeral services will be in DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jim Larger officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time. Frank G. Walker, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 4, 2015. He was born to Louis and Florence Sanders Walker of Marshall, Illinois on May 13, 1926. He leaves behind a grieving family including his loving wife of 62 years, Ginnie Clark Walker; his precious daughter, Brett Snyder and her husband, Kevin of Crystal River, Florida; four wonderful grandchildren, Nick Krieble of Atlanta, Georgia, Jordan Krieble of Indianapolis, Haley Krieble and Gabby Krieble, both of Zionsville. In addition, he leaves behind two very dear, long- time friends, Irene Stringer of Terre Haute and Dr. Barry Krieble of Tuscon, Arizona, as well as three special dog buddies. Frank owned and operated Dairy Queen’s in Terre Haute for the past 60 years. He also served two terms as Vigo County Auditor in the 1970’s. Frank served in the United States Army in World War II, spending time in both Korea and Japan. Upon returning, he attended Rose Polytechnic Institute, currently known as Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. Throughout his life, his Dairy Queen customers were always considered as friends, allowing him to be blessed with many people who will all miss his usual presence at his stores. In honor of Frank’s wishes, cremation has been chosen with no services. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana was entrusted with arrangements. Romona M. Morris, 84 of Terre Haute, passed away at 1:10 PM on Monday, January 5, 2015 in Meadows Manor North Convalescent Center. She was born in South Bend, IN on October 22, 1930 to William Leroy Lennox and Zazele Marie Sparks Lennox. She is survived by two sons, Danny Morris (& wife Janice) and Greg Morris (& wife Debbie), and two daughters, Gloria Morris and Jeannie Surrena, and a daughter-in-law Darlene Morris. Also surviving are two sisters, Martha Hudson ( husband Jim), Alice Bragg. Romona is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene I. Morris, Jr., a son Robert Morris, and siblings Charles Lennox, Donald Lennox, and Mildred Deischer. Romona was a member of the West Terre Haute First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Kyle Andrews. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 12 Noon- 1:00 PM in DeBaun Springhill Chapel.

Iris “June” Orman, 83, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday January 2, 2015 at Southwood Health and Rehabilitation. June was born on May 2, 1932 in Dugger, IN., to Raymond Jones and Lois Lindley Jones. June was a graduate of Greencastle High School and attended Northwest Church of Christ. June was a caretaker, taking care of family and friends often in her home. She was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family. She loved animals of all kinds, loved to play Yahtzee and Scrabble. June was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert “Bob” Orman who passed away February of 2011 and a sister, Dede Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Gerald G. Orman, whom she married January 18, 1952. She is also survived by one son, Terry Orman and his wife Toni of Terre Haute, and a daughter, Cheryl Long and her husband Dale also of Terre Haute. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services are Tuesday January 6, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN., 47804. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the Funeral Home. Pastor Matt Larimer will be officiating. She was born June 25, 1931 in Terre Haute. Velda is survived by a son, Randall Kirby of Terre Haute; a daughter, Rhonda Bays and husband Del of Rosedale; grandchildren, Elizabeth Carlson and husband Jack, Brent Kirby and wife Naomi, and Amanda Kirby; great grandchildren, Samantha Bays, Renae Taylor, Abigail Carlson, Shannon Carlson, Jacob Carlson, Alexcia Kirby, and Lisa Rosa and a sister, Norma Kennedy of Terre Haute. Velda enjoyed gardening and antique dealing. Mary LaDean Hillman-McCauley, 66, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Signature Health Care. She was born May 27, 1848 to the late Doris Hillman. She was a graduate of Wiley High School.

 

Mary worked at Burger King for 16 years until they closed on 3rd Street. She also worked for Original Spaghetti House for 13 years. She loved her animals and the people she met. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

 

She is survived by her sister Donna Biddle and many cousins. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with Misty Brimsfield giving the eulogy.
