Thomas “Tommy” N. Tomes, 76 of Terre Haute, passed away at 11:18 AM on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in Westridge Health Care. He was born in Shelburn, IN on August 25, 1938 to Roy Tomes and Helen Grable Tomes. Tommy is survived by two sisters, Lenora Torpy and Margaret Combs as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as 3 brothers; Jack, Bill, and Jerry Tomes, and a sister, Patricia Hayes. His memberships include the Sons of the American Legion. Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 2:30 PM, with Pastor Linda Smock officiating. Burial will follow in Farmersburg Westlawn Cemetery. Frieda M. Whitlock, 86 and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away at 5:25 PM on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville, IN. She was born in Vigo County on September 1, 1928 to Frederic B. Price and Mammie E. Hartley Price. Frieda had previously worked at both CBS and the Vigo County School Corporation. She is survived by her children; Clara Herman, Frederick Carlisle, George Robert Carlisle, Jeffery Carlisle, James Carlisle, Annetta Sanders, and Charles William Carlisle. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Whitlock, son Robert Bruce Carlisle, daughter, Carolyn Floyd, brother Lester Price and a sister Virginia Coleman. Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Monday,

Herman C. Drake, Sr.
Herman C. Drake, Sr., 90, former Terre Haute resident, passed away December 12,2014 at Decatur Health Care in Indianapolis. He was born in Farmersburg on April 20, 1924 to Ben and Vera (Davis) Drake. He was retired from Drake Produce Distributors. He married Betty J. (Clark) Drake on December 13, 1946 and she preceded him in death on May 29, 2003. He was an honorably discharged Army/Air Corps veteran of WW II. Herman was a proud WW II veteran who served as an aerial engineer, flying C109’s, FC109’s, and C 47’s to deliver troops and supplies in the China-Burma-India theater. His survivors include two daughters Catherine Van Horn (Dr. Peter Van Horn), and Pamela Sallee (Gary D. Sallee); one son Herman Drake, Jr. (Barbara); and seven grandchildren, Dirk Van Horn (Karen), Kirstin Dotlich (Brian), Nicholas Van Horn, Marta Van Horn, Ben Sallee, Patrick Sallee, and Sarah Drake. He has five great-grandchilren. Herman was a devoted grandfather who spent much of his time sharing his love of athletics with his grandchildren. He and his wife spent many hours as spectators for their grandchildren’s academic and athletic events. He did his job as a father and grandfather very well. He taught his family to meet life with a sense of humor and demonstrated the personal reward of a good work ethic. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra Ann, and his brothers Paul Drake, William Drake, and Harold Drake. Andrew G. Rowe,76, of Hillsdale, passed away on December 11, 2014. He was born October 7, 1938 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Andrew M. and Gloria (Garry) Rowe. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was well known through the community having worked in the family business, A. Rowe & Sons Meat Packing Company, and owning and operating Rowe’s Bi-Rite for many years. He retired from the Hoosier Lottery as Terre Haute Regional Manager. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a kind, loving and generous man. He never met a stranger. Everyone who came in contact with him was better for having known him. He cherished his family, his friends, and his faith throughout his life. Andrew was preceded in death by his only brother, George A. Rowe, MD. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years Lila (Lagemann); daughter, Lee Anne Walker of Richmond Hill, Georgia; Andrew H. Rowe of Hillsdale, Indiana; and John M. Rowe (Cathy) of Brookston, Indiana; grandchildren Kalah Walker, Trenton Rowe, Austin Rowe, Kimberly Rowe, Erik Rowe, Ryan Rowe , and Katelyn Rowe; five great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Memorial Mass will be on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 10:30a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 2322 N 13th 1/2 Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804. Father Varghese will be officiating. Charles Edward Miller, 69 of Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Terre Haute on November 24, 1945 to Andrew Miller and Diccie Jackson Miller. Charles was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served in the Viet Nam War, and retired after many years with MAB Paints. He is survived by his wife Bonita, his children Andrea Bishop, Sheila Dowell, Charlie Miller and Andrew Miller. Also surviving are two step-daughters, Michelle Eldred and Leslie Smith, three sisters; Carolyn Kern, Patsy Weihert, and Beverly Wilson, and special friends Bill Potts, Mike Spice, and Floyd Leclercq. In addition, Charles is also survived by nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters; Uldine “Deannie” Oxendine, Jack Miller, Gerald Miller, Elizabeth Ellis, Robert “Umpy” Miller, and Letitia “Tish” Scott. He was a Life member of the Terre Haute Marine Corps League, Life member of VFW Post # 972, American Legion Post # 104, and Voiture 40/8. Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Wabash Avenue Chapel, 2425 Wabash Ave., on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Larry Mathias officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
