Thelma Royena Kennedy, 91, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully in Hospice care on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Beech Grove Meadows, Beech Grove, Ind, where she resided. She was born to Roy and Elease (Ewing) Kennedy on February 12, 1923, in Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Florence S. Goode, Indianapolis, and Carrie E. Robinson, White Plains, NY. She is survived by nieces Sylvia “Buggy” Penman (Russell), Michele Phillips, nephew Larry J. Goode (Evangeline), great nieces Sharol Price and Kisha Phillips, and cousins Earl Kennedy (Barbara), Colleen Harvey, and Leon Kennedy, and other family members, and special friends, Beverly Harris and Chris Greer. Thelma worked in the Marion County Clerk’s Office. She was a long-time member of St. Bridget’s and St. Peter and Paul Cathedral Catholic Churches, and was a dedicated member of the St. Peter Claver Ladies Court 109. She was a Precinct Committee Woman for Indianapolis, and a prominent Republican in the city. She was also a lay Eucharistic minister in her latter years, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She will be remembered for her fun-loving sense of humor and for the pride she had in her accomplishments. Thelma wanted no memorial service, and any remembrances be sent to your favorite charity in her name. And as she would say, she has now finally “hushed up and gone to glory“!
