Richard Allen Brokaw Sr., 93, of Terre Haute passed away on April 19, 2014 at 11:30p.m. He was born on January 27, 1921 to Fred Brokaw and Daisey (Allen) Brokaw. Richard served in the United States Army in WWII and Korean War. He was a ranked professional fighter. He taught self defense and boxing in the Army. Richard was a National Golden Glove Referee. He founded the Wabash Valley Boxing Club. He worked with youth at the Boys Club, YMCA, AAU, and in Boy Scouts. Richard held membership in the Zorah Shrine, Scottish Rite, lifetime membership in Blue Lodge, Kiwanis, and lifetime membership in Masonic Lodge #86.
Richard is survived by his sons Thomas Lane Brokaw II of Myrtle Beach, SC and Richard Brokaw Jr. of Palm Beach, FL, grandsons Richard Brokaw III and Thomas Brokaw III; granddaughters Chloe Brokaw and Hayley Brokaw; and great granddaughter Jocelyn. He was preceded in death by his wife Berna Dean Brokaw on December 13, 1999 and his parents.
Visitation will be in DeBaun Funeral Homes Springhill Chapel, 85 E Springhill Drive, on Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 11:00a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in South Vigo Congregational Cemetery in West Terre Haute following visitation.
