POPPE, Albert Dec 21, 1927 – Mar 28, 2017

Albert Hiram Poppe, 89, of Indianapolis, and formerly of West Terre Haute, passed away at 4:07 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, in his residence. He retired as an electrician from Allison Transmission in Indianapolis after many years of service and later retired from Avon Electric in Avon. He was born Dec. 21, 1927, in Nashville, Ind., to Albert Leroy Poppe and Pearlie Mae Smith Poppe. His wife, Colleen Chesshir Poppe, whom he married June 18, 1949, in West Terre Haute, preceded him in death on March 3, 2005. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Montgomery, Gayle Austin and her husband Greg, and Robin Borer and her husband Jerry; two sisters, Linda Keifer and Ruth Buchanan; two brothers, Herman Poppe and his wife Marsha and Jerry Poppe and his wife Jackie; eight grandchildren, Misty Anderson, Todd Anderson, Shawn Cordray, Justin Poppe, Renee Davidson, Amber Greene, Amanda Schultz, and Ashley Geisler; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Denise Poppe; a son-in-law, Danny Montgomery; three granddaughters, Angelica Renee Cortez, Hope Anderson, and Neveah Anderson; a grandson, Michael Landon Cordray; and three sisters and five brothers. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and later retired from the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was a member of the Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church in Brownsburg. He had been an avid bowler for many years. Sharing the love for the Lord was his greatest passion. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, West Terre Haute, with Pastor Dennis DeWitt officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park with military graveside rites by Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 12 noon until service time Sunday.
