Darlene K. Bennett, 78, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 8:25 p.m. in Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born April 8, 1937 in Terre Haute to Albert Herschel and Susie Slaughter Austin, the eleventh of fourteen children. Survivors include two sons, Jerry C. Bennett and Jessica Payne of Rosedale, Indiana and Larry G. Bennett and wife, Cheryl Bennett of Terre Haute; three grandchildren, William Bennett of Indianapolis, Zechariah E. Bennett (fiance’, Shelby Young) of Terre Haute and Nicholas Bennett of Rosedale. Darlene is also survived by four sisters, Helen J. Fleschner, Patricia A. and Mack McCormick, Shirley J. and Jim Stultz, and Linda L. and Gary Secrest; her sister-in-laws, Irene Austin and Paulette Cottrell. Darlene also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Kenneth Austin, Robert J. Austin and Larry Austin, as well as, sisters, Dorothy L. Austin, Martha Austin, Mary D. Rogers, Catherine Compton, Betty Lee and her twin sister, Marlene Shafer. Darlene retired from Columbia House in 1996. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, on whom she doted. Darlene also loved to get together with her sisters for “sister day”. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her. Services will be Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana with visitation from 4:00 p.m. until service time. Reverend Mark Fleschner will be officiating. In honor of Darlene’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery at a later date.
