Donald Eugene “Don” Nichols, 67, of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2012 in I.U. Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Terre Haute on January 1, 1945 to Ezra Edward Nichols and Evelyn A. Inman Nichols. He is survived by his wife Mary Nichols—whom he married December 23, 1966. Also surviving is his mother, Evelyn A. Krockenberger and his two daughters; Leah Campbell & husband Les, and Sara Bateman & husband Mark. In addition he has four grandchildren; Cade Campbell, Selah Campbell, Hannah Bateman, and Brad Bateman. Other survivors include one brother, Wayne E. Nichols & wife Cindy, a nephew, Bob Nichols, and 3 nieces; Tara Workman, Deanna Young, and Lynn Patterson—who generously donated a kidney to him 4 years ago. He was a retired school teacher, having taught at Van Buren Elementary for 35 years, & during that time enjoyed coaching various sports. He was a member of Hulman Street Wesleyan Church. Funeral Services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Harvey Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 28, 2012 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either the American Cancer Society or the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization, in his memory.
