Veronica Catherine Martin of Terre Haute, Indiana, 87, went to be with her Lord on September 3, 2014. Veronica was born in Lombard, Illinois, on September 7, 1926 to William Whalen and Veronica Perry Whalen. Veronica was a member of St. Joseph’s University Parish Church in Terre Haute, Indiana. She spent her entire life volunteering assistance for others and was a true humanitarian example of a life lived with a deep and abiding faith through prayer for all who had illnesses and special needs. She lived a simple life that has had a powerful and lasting impact on her family and friends. Following an illness last December, Veronica moved to the Providence Health Center at St. Mary of the Woods. The Sisters of Providence welcomed her into their loving care as she spent her last eight months celebrating new friendships and sharing daily worship with the Sisters of Providence community. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Martin, her sister Eileen, her brother Frank and a son, Daniel. Surviving are her daughter Madonna, sons Anthony, Leonard, Patrick, Timothy, and Vincent along with son-in-law Jim, daughters-in-law Ruth, Priscilla, Diane and grandchildren Christopher, Kandace, Miriam, Catherine, Joseph, and Max. Services for Veronica will be held at St. Joseph’s University Parish Church on Saturday September 6th, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Joseph’s two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations or voluntary service time offerings to the Sisters of Providence, St. Mary of the Woods, Indiana. Veronica’s family deeply appreciates the wonderful care, love, and sense of peace she received from the Sisters of Providence.
