Larry R. Wright, 77, of Shelburn passed away Friday August 22, 2014 at 8:59 pm in Terre Haute Regional Hospital, with his family by his side, after a 33 year battle with cancer. He was a retired Master Sergeant from the Indiana Air National Guard with 33 years of service. Larry was born November 24, 1936 in Terre Haute to Byron Wright and Florence (Laybold) Wright. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis (Johnson) Wright who he married April 5, 1957; 3 daughters, Julie Dix of Brazil, Lisa Vire and her husband Tim of Jasonville, and Michele Wright of Indianapolis; brother, Carlton Wright and his wife Caren of Prairie Creek; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Lang and her husband Scott, Jessica Boyll and her husband Matt, Tyler Dix and his wife Amy, Jacob Vire, Sarah Barnes and her husband Chad, Kelsey Cooney and her husband Jerry, and Jillian Vire; 14 great grandchildren, Natalie and Owen Lang, Matilda Boyll, Brayden Cagel, Jayce and Zakary Dix, Tucker and Hynnlee Vire, Conner, Caden, and Cameron Barnes, Mallory and Max Cooney, and Ava Vire; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Ann Johnson; sister-in-law, Suzanne Johnson and several nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Byron Wright, his mother, Florence Yates and step-father Ezra Yates. He was a member of First Prairie Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening and loved to travel. Visitation will be Monday August 25, 2014 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm in DeBaun Funeral Homes, Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. Funeral services will be on Tuesday August 26, 2014 at 11:00 am in First Prairie Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Dobson officiating, there will be visitation at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until service time. Burial will be in Pogue Cemetery with military honors. The family suggests that for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to either, First Prairie Creek Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
