timko, irma            Irma L. (Wood) Timko, 95, passed away August 19 following a brief illness. Her family was at her side

Irma was born on February 5, 1919 in Fontanet, Indiana. Her parents were Fred and Glenna Wood, who preceded her in death. Her father, whom she always called “Pop”,  died just months before her birth of the Great Flu Epidemic of 1918.

Irma graduated from GarfieldHigh School in 1936. She went on to attend Brown’s BusinessCollege. Later she would work at Columbian Enameling in Terre Haute. Irma’s primary role, however, was that of a homemaker.

Irma married George T. Timko in July, 1950. They were married 36 years until his death in 1987.

Irma is survived by two daughters, Sharon Taylor (Tom), of Terre Haute, and Carol Edwards (John) of Greenwood. She also leaves behind three granddaughters, Rebecca Wiesneth (James) of Terre Haute, Laura Turner (Phil) of New Whiteland, and Kathryn Edwards, of Greenwood.

Irma was also very close to her nieces and nephew, who include Glenna Farrugia, Marilyn Elston, Joan Grove, Robert Wood, and Susan Clements.

Besides her parents and husband, Irma was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeffrey Edwards, and three brothers, Bert Wood, Merle Wood, and Raymond Wood, whom she dearly loved. Irma also felt very close to her sisters-in-law whom she spent a great deal of time with. They included Mary Jane Wood (Bert), Harriet Wood (Merle), and Frances Wood (Raymond).

Throughout the years, Irma enjoyed, above all else, spending time with her family. She loved family vacations and rich holiday traditions. She was an avid sports fan, following closely the efforts of the Indiana Pacers, Chicago Cubs, and Denver Broncos. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be at the DeBaun Funeral Home, located at 25th and Wabash in Terre Haute, on Friday, August 22 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Sandy McCloskey on Saturday, August 23, at 11:00 a.m. at DeBaun. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. On-line condolences may be made through DeBaun Funeral Home at www.debaunfuneralhomes.com or at the 25th and Wabash location.
