Bishop Merrill Weir

Bishop Merrill W. Weir, Sr., 65, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday June 29, 2014 at 10:32 p.m. at Union Hospital surrounded by his family. Bishop Weir was born on April 10, 1949 in Terre Haute, IN to Rev. John Weir and Margaret Marie Moody Weir. He was the Pastor at the Christ Temple Church for over 38 years where he was devoted to God and his church. He was also the former co-owner of the Peanut Shack in Honey Creek Square Mall along with his beloved wife Suzanne. Bishop Weir was an avid pocket knife collector, and loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was always interested in world news, and loved spending time outdoors and in his yard and garden. Bishop Weir was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne Weir, who passed away February 12, 2010, his brothers: Rev. Harley Weir and Robert Weir, and a sister, Frances Hamilton. He is survived by three sons: Rev. Merrill Weir, Jr. and his wife Julie, of Terre Haute, IN, Rev. Bobby Weir, and his wife Tanya, of Bedford, IN, and Rev. Jason Weir, and his wife Alicia, of Brazil, IN., a sister Mae St. John of Terre Haute, IN, six grandchildren: Jenna Weir, Hannah Weir, Logan Weir, Abigail Weir, Jackson Weir and Molly Weir, and several nieces and nephews. Services are scheduled for Tuesday July 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Temple Church, 2311 Locust Street, Terre Haute, IN., 47807, visitation will be held on Monday July 7, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church, and from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. Rev. J.H. Osborne and Rev. Fred Stanger will be officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
