Traudi Reick, 72, of Terre Haute died unexpectedly on June 10, 2014 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born in Berlin, Germany on February 3, 1942 to Otto Schmidt and Polagia Jaganova Schmidt. She proudly maintained her German citizenship until her death.
Traudi was known for her compassion and insight, her classiness, beauty and wisdom as well as her hats in addition, to her intolerance of phoniness and her ability to tell it like it is without offending others. Traudi’s fascinating life began during WWII, and as a child took part in the Berlin Airlift which she credits for her post war survival. She greatly appreciated the American military for their participation in this endeavor. As a no-nonsense young lady in Germany she earned a business degree and held on to her zest for knowledge encouraging her children to do the same. She married Francis (Frank) Joseph Reick in 1964. He preceded her death on May 21, 2007. They lived with their family in Berlin until 1981 at which time they moved to the United States. She chose to dedicate her life to her family, was a supportive military wife and a gracious and giving mother and grandmother until her death.
Traudi is survived by her son Frank Reick; daughters Regina Helen Reick, Suzanne Reick (Ralph Patterson), Kimberly Kunoff, and Aislyn Reick (David Penman); grandchildren Gabriella Kunoff, Quinn Patterson, Landen Penman; sister Ursula Modlin; brothers, Waldemar Schmidt, Erwin Schmidt; special sister-in-law, Eileen McDade and special brother-in-law, Robert Reick. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.
A celebration of life for Traudi will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 6:00PM at the home of Keith and Rita Penman; friends and acquaintances are invited to attend.
