Lois Marie Pipher Allen, age 97, departed this life on March 19, 2014. She was an Indiana native and had lived on a farm just outside Riley for more than sixty years. She was preceded in death by her husband Verlin H. Allen, a son, Roy (Tiny) Allen, and two daughters: Patricia R. Keach and Velma S. Freeman. She is survived by her son Jerry L. Allen of Riley, IN and her daughter Cheryl Allen-Melchiorre (James) of New York City. In addition to her five children, Lois Allen had fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Gretna Sankey of Farmersburg, IN and Pauline Arbaugh of Grass Valley, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a champion pie-baker, made the world’s greatest persimmon pudding, and was a dedicated member of the Wesleyan Church.
Lois Allen was a loyal and dedicated member of the Hulman Street Wesleyan Church in Terre Haute. Her funeral will be 11 a.m. on Saturday March 22 at DeBaun Springhill Chapel. The family will greet visitors on Friday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. For those who choose memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
