Velma Jean Davis Phillips, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away on Wednesday March 5, 2014 in Union Hospital. Velma was born September 25, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana to James Tate and Opal Hord Tate on . Velma attended Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, she enjoyed spending time with her family and maintaining her lifetime friendships. She had formerly worked in the City Controller’s Office and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Robert Paul Davis who died in 1957, her second husband Robert Phillips who died in 1985, her daughter Deloris Ann Trainer who died in 1998 and her companion Victor Ketcham who died in 2012. She is survived by two sons and daughters in laws; Jerry and Debra K. Davis and Robert and Debra R. Davis, all of Terre Haute. One sister, Alta Mae Walls and her husband Robert of Terre Haute and a brother, James E. Tate and his wife Sally of Shepherdsville, KY. She is survived by six grandchildren; Angie Luttrell, Michelle Rene Kougl, Samantha Donnenhoffer and her husband Adam, Lisa Davis, Teresa Dalton and her husband Blake and Justin Trainer. Survivors also include fifteen great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Services are scheduled for Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN., 47804. Visitation will be on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Rev. Rick Swan will be officiating, Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
