Bernard J. Van Sell, 90, of Greencastle, passed away on December 18, 2013. He was born on August 15, 1923 to John R. Van Sell and Lillian Fitzgibbon Van Sell. Bernard was a devout Catholic. He held membership with the American Legion #104, and a life time membership with Disabled Veterans of America Chapter #9. He served in the United States Army, in the Army Air Corps during WWII. The family would like to thank The Waters of Greencastle and Horizon Hospice for the care that Bernard received.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Patricia Harris Van Sell; daughter Mary Pat Van Sell; son Daniel Van Sell and brother Leo Van Sell. He is survived by his sons Bernard J. Van Sell II and Michael Van Sell (Diane); grandchildren Shannon McDonald (Mitch) and Nathan Van Sell (Sarah); and great grandson Chase Stevens.
Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, December 20, 2013, at 12:05 p.m. at St. Benedict Parish, 111 South 9th Street. Visitation will be at DeBaun Funeral Homes Wabash Avenue Chapel, 2425 Wabash Avenue, on Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 5:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. Cremation will be scheduled after services. A private family burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date with military honors.
