Betty Jean Benjamin, 85 of Terre Haute passed away Friday December 6, 2013 surrounded by her family. Betty was born September 11, 1928 in Green County Indiana to Hiram and Pansy Knowles Lacey. Betty was a retiree from Columbia House Records and was a longtime member of the 8th Avenue Baptist Church. She loved to crochet and was involved in many church activities throughout the years. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Richard Benjamin who died in 1997, two sons; Donald and Richard Benjamin, two brothers; Robert and William Lacey, and three grandchildren; Jason and Justin Benjamin and Michael Hetterscheidt. Betty is survived by one daughter; Debra Scott and her husband James of Terre Haute, one son, David Benjamin and his friend Michael Liffick of Terre Haute, two daughter-in-laws; Becky Benjamin of Benton Illinois, and Glenda Benjamin, two sisters; Sally Kwapich and her husband Roger of Sparks, Nevada, and Marilyn Robbins and special friend Gil Stehr of Lousiana, one sister-in-law; Glenda Lacey of Houston Texas, a very special friend; George Plew of Linton, six grandchildren; Brooke Taylor, Amy Pierce, Ty Benjamin, Sara Scott, Brent Barnhart, and Danielle Wichern, seven great grandchildren; Elliot Trosper, Jake McGee, Chelsea McDermott, Emma Pierce, Kyle Barnhart, Reef Wichern, Luci Wichern and Bryce Hetterscheidt. Betty is also survived by many other friends, family, and loved ones. Services will be on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005, North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN., 47804 at 1:00 p.m., visitation will be at the Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until Service time on Tuesday. Pastor Dick Smith will be officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family that requests that in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Susan G. Komen Wabash Valley Affiliate, P.O. Box 3162, Terre Haute, IN. 47803, for breast cancer and pancreatic cancer research and support, envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
