Robert W. “Bob” Altvater

Robert “Bob” Willis Altvater, 69, of Terre Haute, passed away at 5:20 PM on Thursday, May 2, 2013 in Royal Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center.  He was born in Terre Haute on December 12, 1943 to Carl Altvater & Doris Miller Altvater.  He was an Army veteran, having served in the Viet Nam War & stationed in Germany.  He is survived by his wife, Patricia Slusser Altvater, a son, Kevin Altvater & wife Yolanda & granddaughters Skyler & Emily Altvater.  Also surviving are 2 brothers, Charles “Chuck” Altvater & Carl Altvater, and 3 step-sons;  Greg Denbo, Mike Denbo, and Jeff Denbo & their families, as well as  caregiver Glenda Denbo.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and by 2 sisters Betty & Clarabell.  Bob retired from I.M.C.- Pitman & Moore in 1993 & worked at several different jobs afterwards.  He attended Bible Baptist Church & was a graduate of Honey Creek High School.  He loved tinkering in the garage on lawnmowers, enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, and going to local dirt track races.  He battled Huntington’s Disease for the last two years.  Graveside services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 10, 2013, with Pastor Bob Parker officiating.  Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post # 346.  The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Vista Care Hospice, in his memory.  Arrangements are under the direction of DeBaun Funeral Homes & Crematory.
