Florence Elaine Stoelting, 93, of Terre Haute passed away on Tuesday, in Davis Gardens May 7, 2013 with her family by her side. She was born March 22, 1920 to Rudolph Peterson and Mary A. (Fisk) Peterson in Munising, Michigan. She was a Registered Nurse. Following two years at the University of Michigan, she transferred to the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago, from which she graduated with an R.N. degree.  She obtained her State license, worked at the Presbyterian Hospital, chose her husband to be and married on January 23, 1943.  She and her husband moved to Cincinnati, OH.  From 1943-1945, she worked in the Obstetrical Department of the Jewish Hospital.  Following her World War II military husband to California, she renewed her medical career at the French Hospital, San Francisco, CA during 1945-1946.  Subsequently, she gave birth to her daughter.  She worked in her husband’s office and continued off and on as a relief.  She was a member of Tri Kappa, P.E.O. sisterhood Chapter Z, T.O.B.I.E.S., Swope Alliance, Union Hospital Service League, Woman’s Department Club, Terre Haute German Oberlandler Club, Inc. , Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, and Vigo County Historical Society, and a Life Member of the University of Illinois President’s Council.

Florence is survived by her husband Dr. J. Lewis Stoelting of Terre Haute; daughter H. Ingrid Stoelting of Terre Haute; brother Robert L. Peterson, his wife, Margie of Lupon,Michigan; brother-law, George Kirkpatrick of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her sister, Margaret J. Kirckpatrick of Evergreen,Colorado; her parents;  and her nephew,Robert Joab.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Union Hospital Foundation, or Maple Avenue United Methodist Church or Heartland Hospice,931 East 86th St,Ste 208, Indianapolis, In.46240.  Memorial services for Florence will be scheduled at a later time.  In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated.
