Helen Pifer Shots Palmer, 76 of Terre Haute, went to be with the Lord on April 1, 2013 at 8:54 AM at her home. She was born on December 11, 1936 in Winchester, IN to Marval “Smiley” Pifer and Juanita Younger Pifer, who passed away during childbirth. She was raised by her grandmother, Crella Mae Pifer in Oaktown, IN where she graduated in 1955.
Helen was blessed with a step-mother, Doris E. Pifer, who she formed a special bond with. Helen married Jimmie Dale Shots in 1958 in Vincennes, IN. They were blessed with two children, Michael Dale Shots and Lisa Louise Shots Parsley. Jimmie preceded her in death in November 1962.
Helen married her 2nd husband, Kenneth A. Palmer, on October 31, 1999. Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. She enjoyed going to casinos, horse races, shopping and hosting hog roasts and bean dinners at her home. She was a member of of the Eagles Aeries Lodge # 291 for many years.
Helen worked for many years for Bob McClelland Chrysler in Terre Haute working at Robinson Floor Covering, where she retired from. After retiring Helen became a care-giver for her in-laws, Walter and Eileen Campbell. She loved helping people and was loved by many.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents Juanita Younger Pifer, Marval “Smiley” Pifer and Doris E. Pifer. Brothers, Farrell, Elmer and Michael Pifer. Sisters Ruth James and Joan Miller, her mother and father-in-law Walter and Eileen Campbell.
Helen is survived by her husband Kenneth Palmer of Terre Haute, son Michael D. Shots of Clinton, IN, daughter Lisa Shots Parsley, Grandson Travis Parsley, granddaughter Brittnie Barker and husband James, great grandchildren Braden and Jaylie Barker, all of Terre Haute. Also surviving is one sister, Dorothy Bohannon of Dayton, OH, and three brothers, Charles Pifer and wife Rose, Bobby Pifer and wife Alice, and David Pifer and wife Kathy, all of Vincennes, IN. Helen is also survived by her special friends Sue Ford of Indianapolis, IN, Zella Mae McClure of Vincennes, IN, Andrea Monroe of Floyds Knobs, IN and Tamina Long Crowe of Terre Haute, IN., and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nursing staff at Regional Hospital, Vista Care Hospice, and family friend and doctor, Dr. C. Lim.
Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, Terre Haute, IN, on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Andrew Hutchinson and James Henson officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park in Vincennes, IN. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 5, 2013 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in DeBaun Springhill Chapel.
