William Loren VanGilder “Bill”, 75, of Brazil, IN passed away on January 13, 2013 at 5:02 a.m. in Union Hospital. Bill was born on December 9, 1936 to Loren and Florence (Sowder) VanGilder. He served his country in the United States Navy for 4 years. He was a member and Past Master of Riley Masonic Lodge # 390. Bill was also a member of American Legion, Scottish Rite, and Zorah Shrine. He enjoyed fishing, flying, hunting, working models, and spoiling his grandchildren.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald VanGilder and Arnold VanGilder. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Sandra (Dooley) VanGilder; sons Bill VanGilder of Marshall, IL and Joe VanGilder, and his wife Carolyn, of North Carolina; daughters Debbie Honsowetz, her husband Mike, of Lafayette, IN, Lynda Forti, and her husband Dave of New Jersey; grandchildren Laura Mirabella, Tom Forti, Quentin VanGilder, Monica VanGilder, Taylor Honsowetz, and Nathan Honsowetz; great granddaughter Kyle; brothers Richard VanGilder and Alfred VanGilder; sisters Sandra Kimmell, Judy Pierce, and Carol Sluder; and his faithful companions whom he loved spending time with, his Dachshunds Max and Simon.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday January 15, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E Springhill Drive. Rev. Pat Sleeth will be officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. A Masonic Service will be at the start of funeral services. Visitation will be on Monday January 14, 2013 at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Heart Association or the Terre Haute Humane Society.
