Wilbur E. (Wib) Gambill

After a long battle with cancer, Wib went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 1, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Vigo County on April 20, 1928 to Earl and Mary Gambill and lived all his life in the Prairieton, Terre Haute and Sullivan areas. He and Mary Alice Hayhurst were married in Terre Haute on May 31, 1951. They had four children: Angela (Robert) Neese of Rutledge, Missouri; Michael (Janee) Gambill, Christopher (Bionca) Gambill and Jeffrey (Stephannie) Gambill all of the Terre Haute area. They have eleven grandchildren: Brett (Siri) Long of West Des Moines, Iowa; Jon-Michael (Shannon) Ladislas of Fishers, Indiana; Daniel Ladislas of Ames, Iowa; Brittany Gambill of Indianapolis; Landon Gambill of Prairie Creek; Noah (Maria) Gambill of Terre Haute; Naaman (Ashley) Gambill of Chicago; Kit Gambill of Terre Haute; Nicholas, Matthew, and Madelyn Gambill of Pimento. There are also six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Doyne Gambill.
Wib was personnel manager at Pfizer, Inc. and retired from there after 35 years. He was a US Army veteran who saw service in Korea, a member of Prairieton F & AM #178, Prairieton OES #163, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, VFW of Sullivan Post #2459 and Agape Christian Church. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and playing cards with friends and family.
Memorial services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Friday, January 4 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4 – 8 at DeBaun’s. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. Online condolences can be offered at www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
