Lucille Mae Strole, 88, of West Terre Haute, passed away peacefully at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, in Providence Healthcare at St. Mary-of the-Woods. She was born on July 26, 1928, in Dugger, to Edward Washington Williams and Daisey Mae Hudson Williams. She and her family moved to the New Goshen area as a young girl where she grew up and attended school. She was a graduate of the former Fayette High School. She married Ray L. Strole on Nov. 8, 1947, in New Goshen and he preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 2012. For 45 years Lucille and Ray operated their grain and dairy farm near New Goshen. She was a hard-working woman and assisted Ray in all aspects of their farm beginning early every morning with the daily chores of operating a dairy farm. They enjoyed country living and raising their daughters on the family farm. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Tony Macak and Kathy and Mike Miller of West Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Robbin Wilbur and husband Chris, Brad Macak and wife Brandy, Bridget Short and husband Trent, and Jason Macak and wife Amy; seven great-grandchildren, Cody Thornton, Corinne Thornton, Reese Wilbur, Dakota Short, Devon Short, Emmy Macak, Grace Macak, and Madison Macak; eight sisters-in-law, Leah VanHoutin, Ruth McCleary, Charity Evinger, Doris Flowers, Lois Strole, Mary Strole, Phyllis Strole, and Rosie Newlin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Myrick Edward "Mick" Williams; and two sisters, Ruth Bozarth and Ida Smith. Lucille was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church for over 70 years, where she was actively involved in the Kids Hope ministry mentoring program. She was a 60-year member and past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 428 at West Terre Haute, the Daughters Of the Nile, the YWCA, where she was a member of the swim club, and a member of the Birthday Club. She enjoyed going to swim club and birthday club luncheons with her dear friend Pat Sporer. Lucille loved to volunteer at the Helping Hands in West Terre Haute, and with her daughters both being teachers, she enjoyed helping them with many various classroom projects. She dearly loved spending time with her family. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Clark Cowden and Pastor Chris Wilbur officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday. Serving as pall bearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Brad Macak, Jason Macak, Cody Thornton, Devon Short, Dakota Short, and Reese Wilbur. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church or West Side Community Church, with envelopes available in the funeral home.
