TICKNER, Carolyn Mar 17, 1940 – Apr 28, 2017

CLAY CITY [mdash] Carolyn Sue Ley Tickner, 77, of Clay City, passed away unexpectedly, April 28, 2017, at her home. She was born March 17, 1940, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Harry Cecil and Sarah Katherine (Doan) Corey. Carolyn graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in 1956 and later graduated from cosmetology school. Carolyn also became a certified nurses aid later in life. She worked at her husband's optometry office for several years. Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog, Daisy. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting and working coloring books. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and attended First United Church of Christ. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Kate Corey; and two husbands, Walter Phillip Ley and Richard Tickner. She is survived by two daughters, Cathy Swearingen of Clay City and Debbie Ley and husband Rich Spanton of Fishers; two grandchildren, Rachael Amanda "Amy" Swearingen and Phillip Jackson "P.J." Swearingen;and three great-grandchildren, Chloee DeHart, Landon Swearingen and Shaylee Swearingen. Visitation will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East Eighth Street, Clay City, Wednesday, May 3, 2017, from 6 until 8 p.m. Private burial services will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery, in Clay City.
