Charlotte G. VanGilder (Mahurin), 75, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away at Regional Hospital on April 19, 2017. She was born in Sullivan County to Claude Mahurin and Mary Mahurin (Bose) and graduated from Blackhawk High School in 1959. She retired from Columbia Group Federal Credit Union in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ed Mahurin and J.R. Mahurin; and one sister, Terri Roberts. She is survived by her two sons, Victor VanGilder and his girlfriend Stacy Taylor of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Vincent VanGilder and his wife Brandee of Darlington, South Carolina; granddaughter, Heather Stephens and her husband Josh; great-grandchildren, Bryson and Hailey Stephens; her sister, Donna Treadway and her husband Tom; and also numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends. Charlotte raised her two sons as a single mother and her parenting style often seemed to my brother Vince and I that we had a drill sergeant at home for a mom. She was a straightforward kind of lady and you didn't have any trouble figuring out what was on her mind! That being said she loved her boys and did her best to give them every opportunity in life, and despite my brother's and my sometimes misguided efforts, she made us the men we are today! In honoring her wishes, cremation has been arranged and a private service for immediate family members will be held at a later date.
