Nov 14, 1973 – Mar 29, 2017 Gregory Allen Woolley, 43, passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 29, 2017, in the ICU at Arnett Hospital in West Lafayette, after a 4½-month battle with brain cancer. He had been residing in The Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette for the past week. Greg previously resided in Deland, Fla., where he moved from Terre Haute in June, 2016. He was a proud nine-year veteran of the United States Navy, serving in various stations on the east coast and Rota, Spain as a Cryptologist Technician. After serving in the Navy, He dedicated his career to psychiatric care. He served as a mental health technician. Greg's focus was on children. Whether it was his wife's younger siblings he watched, the physically or mentally disabled children he worked with or the children he taught in church groups, Greg yearned to make a difference in every child's life. He accomplished this with extraordinary success. He was an avid fan and could recite every word from the movie "The Blues Brothers" forwards and backwards. If you did not have the pleasure of knowing this man, you really missed out. Greg made a lasting impression on so many people throughout his entire life. "We're on a mission from God" One place Greg made a colossal impact was with his church family. Greg was an active member at The Bridge church in Terre Haute since Oct. 5, 2014. He dedicated himself to God and was baptized for the first time on Nov. 2, 2014. Although spending months in the hospital and no matter how sick he felt, Greg rarely missed the opportunity to catch an online broadcast of The Bridge services. Greg and his wife had such an effect on their church family that as soon as Pastor Billy Joe Henry heard of Greg's condition, he traveled from Terre Haute to Orlando, Fla., just to visit him and his wife and offer them comfort. Pastor Henry said after Greg's passing "Greg will be greatly missed by The Bridge family. He was just one of those guys that everyone loved. Every time he'd enter a room, laughter was soon to follow." "Are you the police?" "No, ma'am. We're musicians." Music and reading were a huge part of Greg's life since he was a child. He would often read an entire book in one day and quickly search for another to begin. Greg loved all different kinds of music. His eclectic taste in music ranged from Hank Williams to the Dead Kennedys. He did not care one bit that he was completely tone deaf and absolutely incapable of keeping time. He would rock out and sing as loud as he could whenever the mood struck. If he embarrassed his wife in the process, he would just consider that a bonus. "At least we got a change of clothes, sucker. You're wearing the same stuff you had on three years ago." It would be a crime to not mention a couple of his biggest passions in life; his shoes and his beard. Greg never had any outrageous expectations from life. However, the two things he did require were that his feet and face looked great! Greg had a fun and often humorous passion for footwear and beard care products. Even after not being able to muster the strength to feed himself, he would amuse everyone with his concern on what shoes he was wearing or how his beard looked and smelled. Once he was so specific as to say he wanted his beard to smell like Christmas…in July. That was the humor of Greg Woolley. "People, when you do find that special somebody, you gotta hold that man, hold that woman! Love him, please him, squeeze her, please her! Signify your feelings with every gentle caress, because it's so important to have that special somebody to hold, to kiss, to miss, to squeeze, and please!" No question, his chief priority in life was his wife. On June 2, 2014, he chose to dedicate his life to Savvannah Woolley. From then on, it was a relationship most envied. The love that they felt for each other was palpable. He devoted his entire life to her. His selfless attitude consisted of working long hours to ensure Savvannah could continue her education and would work 24 hours a day if he had to so that she could concentrate on finishing her degree. He was the most self-sacrificing man anyone had the privilege of knowing. He got the amazing news that he was going to be a first-time father one week before his diagnosis. Later he received the news that he was going to be a father of twins. Unfortunately, he did not make it to be able to see his children, but be confident that he will be watching over them from above every day of their lives. "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark… and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it." Greg was preceded in death by his father, Robert Isaac Woolley. He is survived by an amazing network of family and friends that love him, his wife, Savvannah Woolley; their two unborn children, Presley Maxine and Isaak James; stepmother, Cindy Adams; mother, Sharon Robinson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rodger Plunkett and Holly Runyan; Michael Glasgow and Jennifer Plunkett; siblings, Jennifer Woolley Weust, Matthew Woolley, Robert Woolley, McKennah Plunkett, Gilliam Plunkett, Matthew Glasgow and Jossten Glasgow; grandparents, Rodger and Cathy Plunkett, Donald and Loralee Smock, Bill Gilliam and Matthew Greene; also more aunts, uncles, and cousins than you can shake a stick at; his church family; and his Navy shipmates scattered all over the world. Funeral services will be held at The Bridge Church, 1901 8th Ave., Terre Haute, on Monday, April 3, 2017, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Billy Joe Henry officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Samaritan Funeral Home.
