Jerod Cole Newton, 32, tragically left this earthly life on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, in Fountain County, Ind., the result of a work-related vehicular accident. He was born on March 29, 1984, in Terre Haute, to J.R. Newton and Trudy Beltz Newton. He was employed with Brinks Inc. He had previously worked for Hamilton Center, the Vigo County Sheriff's Department and WTHI-TV. He was a 2002 graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School, and he also received his B.S. in criminology from Indiana State University. He had been involved in Boy Scouts of America for many years, attaining his Eagle rank. Jerod was a fun-loving, larger-than-life person who never met a stranger. His friends, family and family traditions were of utmost importance to him. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Marni J. Lattin Newton; his sons, Elijah Cole Newton, Griffin Mowrer and Karson Mowrer, all of Terre Haute; his parents, of Terre Haute; his mother in-law, Genie Pearson, Terre Haute; father in-law, Johnny Lattin, Terre Haute; a brother, Lee M. Newton (Carissa Barushak), Terre Haute; his paternal grandmother, Edith L. Gummere, Terre Haute; special aunts, Deanna (Coy) Harmon, Goodyear, Ariz., Emilie (Kyle) Barnett, Terre Haute, Marjorie (Warren) Patrick, Terre Haute, and Georgia Beltz, Charleston, Ill.; an uncle, Darrell (Jill) Newton, Terre Haute; nephews, Hunter Newton, Jeremiah Newton and Gram Kirkman, all of Terre Haute; Caden Newton, Prairie Creek; and Jaxson Adams, Evansville; sister in-law, Megan Nelson, Terre Haute; and several special cousins, great aunts and uncles and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rosemary and Claude "Mac" Beltz; paternal grandfather, Vernice L. Newton Sr.; and a special uncle, Stephen M. Beltz. Celebration of life will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday March 14, 2017, at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., Terre Haute, Ind., with Pastor Stacy Tomich officiating. Visitation will be held on from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family strongly suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Jerod C.
