ROCKVILLE [mdash] Harold E. Norman Sr., 85, of Rockville, Indiana, died Monday, March 6, 2017, in his residence. He was a maintenance mechanic with Anaconda Aluminum in Terre Haute, BHK NAPA Auto Parts in Rockville, carpentry work and also a minister. He was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Yeddo, Indiana, to the late Zora Allen Norman and Mary Paddock Norman. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou Boyer Norman, on May 25, 1962. His wife of 52 years, Merle Janice Hall Norman, whom he married Sept. 7, 1962, in Judson, died Dec. 7, 2014. Survivors include one son, Steve (Sally) Norman of Kingman; four daughters, Kathy Baxter of Douglasville, Georgia, Sandy (John) Lair of Hillsdale, Carolyn (John) Kilby of Bloomingdale and Donna (Jeff) Norman of Rockville; 16 grandchildren, Melissa (Brad) Woodard, Kimberly (Donald) Faulkner, Jessica (J.T.) Griffin, Jason (Heather) Willhite, Melanie (Chris) Peace, Mike (Samantha) Canfield, Mary (Greg) Todd, Amanda (Jared McLeish) Lair, Alexis (Jason) Frazier, Carrie (Tim) Axtell, Kyleigh (David) Hodson, Steven Norman, Micah (D.J.) Wickstrom, Zach (Ashley) Norman, Zeb (Myria Certain) Norman and Candi Norman Jared McLeish; two sisters, Martha (Richard) Perkins of Stone Bluff and Patsy "Sis" (Mel) Farrar of Williamsport; 30 great-grandchildren and one on the way; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Rusty Norman; son-in-law, Dave Baxter; eight brothers; and one sister. He was a graduate of Tangier High School. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953, receiving the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Korean Service Ribbon with three bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the Marshal Federated Church and the AMVETS Post 61 in Rockville. He enjoyed music, playing many instruments including the guitar, organ, piano and the dulcimer. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and fishing. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 9, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St., Rockville, with Brother Don Perry officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by Parke County veterans will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gooch Funeral Home.
