Donald “Don” L. James, 84, of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday January 3, 2016 in Meadows Manor East. Don was born May 29, 1931 in Coal Bluff, IN., to Lewis James and Rachel Robson James Crumrin. Don was retired from Public Service Indiana now known as Duke Energy where he worked as a Control Supervisor at the Wabash Generating Station. Don was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #86 of Terre Haute and Krietenstein American Legion Post #104 also in Terre Haute, he was an avid golfer as well as a lifelong fan and supporter of Indiana State University Sycamores. Don was a family man, dedicated to his wife, children and grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents as well as his maternal grandparents, John and Naomi Robson who raised him. He was also preceded by his mother and father in-law, Thomas and Mary Gibson Meneely as well as brother in-laws, Jack Meneely and Tom Meneely. Don is survived by his wife Lucy Meneely James of Terre Haute, they were married May 15, 1953. He is survived by one son, Donald James II and his wife Kathy of Burlington, NC., one daughter, Mary Phyllis Sloggett and her husband John of Forest, IN. One brother, Jack James and his wife Ann of Terre Haute and a brother and sister in-law, Don and Pat Meneely and a sister in-law Norma Meneely. Three grandchildren; J.T. Sloggett and his wife Whitney and Kreigh Sloggett and his wife Meghan and Taylor James. Two great grandchildren; Korbyn and Kayden Sloggett as well as several nieces and nephews. Services are scheduled for Saturday January 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Greiner FuneralHome, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN., 47804. Visitation will be on Friday January 8, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Funeral Home. Pastor Monte Vincent, Pastor Andy Fishback and Pastor Kenny Tilford will be officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family of Don James would like to thank Debbie Brown, Don and Lucy’s niece, Dr. Jeevan and Fresenius Medical Care for their kindness, friendship and outstanding care throughout Don’s illness. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 3201 McKeen St., Terre Haute, IN., 47803 or to the charity of their choice.
