Stephen E. Swalls

Stephen E. Swalls, 70, lifetime Vigo County resident, went home to meet his Lord and Savior on July 13, 2015.  He was born on January 29, 1945 to Herman and Vernice (Hawkins) Swalls and they have preceded him in death.  He was also preceded by a brother David Swalls and three sisters Ophelia Lawrence, Norma Jones, and Rachel Butler.  He is survived by his wife Janet (Trout) Swalls, three daughters Lisa Steadman (Michael), Sheri Swalls (John), and Robin Gemmecke (Bobby);  one sister Edith Kearschner; two brothers Dan Swalls and Carl Swalls (Josie).  He has six grandchildren Krysti Jackson (Mike), Jacob Bennett (Sarah), Ashley Livingston, Jeffrey Bailey, Brianna Gemmecke, and Nicholas Gemmecke; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Steve was also survived by his in-laws Jim and Judy Trout, one sister-in-law Ginger Swalls, and two brothers-in-law Rick Trout (Terrie) and Woody Butler.  Steve loved singing gospel music with his wife as Heaven’s Jubilee.  He enjoyed raising, training, and showing horses and was a blacksmith and auctioneer.  He retired from Public Service Indiana.  He was an active member of Oregon Baptist Church, Riley Masonic Lodge # 390, and the Western Riders Club.  He enjoyed singing, fishing, golf, horses, and old cars.  Funeral services will be on Friday, July 17, 2015 in DeBaun Springhill Chapel beginning at 10 a.m.  Rev. Fred Harrison will officiate.  Burial will follow in New Harmony Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. with Riley Lodge giving a memorial service at 7 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be made to Oregon Baptist Church, 11200 S.
