Valerie Jill McCombs, 68, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on March 1, 2015. She was born June 26, 1946 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She founded Council On Domestic Abuse (CODA) in Terre Haute, Indiana. She spent her life working in social services with agencies such as Salvation Army and other county services. She was an advocate for helping people get back on their feet after going through hard times. She was a phenomenal people person. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents T. Gene Chavers and Rosemary (Ellis) Chavers of Tusla Oklahoma. She is survived by her husband of 25 years Jeffrey McCombs; sons Kyle McCombs, his fiancé Danielle Vanhorn of Shelburn, Indiana, Aaron Barnhart, his wife Dawnalee of Terre Haute, Indiana; daughters Valerie Lee Funk, her husband Rod of Osceola, Iowa and Winnie Caskey, her husband Kevin of Charleston, Illinois. She has 12 grandchildren; Justin Butler, Skylar Graham, Garyad Passmore, Artana Moreland, Geneveve Barnhart, and Jerry, Renea, Camille, Morgan, Jenna, and Jamin Caskey, and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Victoria Hamelin of Texas, Claudia Miller, and her husband Neal of Oklahoma; brothers-in-law Michael McCombs, his wife Karen, Larry McCombs, his wife Becky, Tim McCombs, his wife June, Steven McCombs, his wife Ruth and nephews Scott Hamelin, Matthew Miller, Luke Miller, Andrew Miller, and Griffin Miller. In honoring Valerie’s wishes cremation has been chosen and memorial services will be held at a later time.
