born in Vigo County on August 3, 1929 to Harry Franklin and Agnes M. (Ehlers) Van Allen. Mr. Van Allen was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served in the Korean War. He retired in 1991 from the Tribune-Star Publishing Company after being a pressman for 40 years. Mr. Van Allen enjoyed boating, water skiing, and had been an avid bowler. He is survived by his wife, Fern (Foutz) Van Allen whom he married February 25, 1962; two daughters Margaret Ellen Van Allen Battles and husband Steven, and Martha Jane Van Allen Adams and husband Jamie; a son, Rev. Harry F. Van Allen, II and wife Nancy. His seven grandchildren are Christopher Van Allen, Megan Battles, Elizabeth Van Allen, Justin Battles, Jessica Van Allen, Jordan Battles, and Jacob Adams. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Rev. Gene Gilbreath and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Temple where he had been a member for many years. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Center Ridge Cemetery, Sullivan.
