sarkar, anil photoDr. Anil K. Sarkar, 86, of Terre Haute passed away suddenly February 24, 2015 at 7:46 pm in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was a pathologist at Union Hospital since 1961, and had also served at Clay County Hospital and Sullivan County Hospital. Dr. Sarkar was born June 1, 1928 in Gopalgang, India to N.K. Sarkar and S. Sarkar. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Dipa Sarkar, a daughter, Rumu Sarkar of Washington, DC; a son and daughter by a previous marriage, Asoke Sarkar of India and Anuradha Naugle of California and her sons Sean and Seth Naugle; his youngest brother, Shekhar Sarkar of Herndon, VA, and two other brothers and a sister. He was the Medical Director at Clay County and Sullivan County Hospitals, along with his wife, Dr. Dipa Sarkar. Dr. Sarkar was a Board certified pathologist. Dr. Sarkar was also a world traveler, a wonderful historian, accomplished author in both Bengali and English, and loved to recite Bengali poetry by Tagore. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be Saturday February 28, 2015 from 3:00 until 5:00 pm in DeBaun Funeral Homes, Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. with funeral services beginning at 5:00 pm in the funeral home with Deacon Michael Stratham officiating. Cremation will follow. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Dr. Sarkar’s name.
