Betty L. Childress Cook Welty, 84, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday January 31, 2015 in Springhill Village. Betty was born on October 3, 1930 in Ashville, Illinois to Leonard Childress and Helen Dukeman Childress. Betty was a registered nurse and a homemaker. She worked at Lincoln State Hospital and Shawnee Hospital. Betty was an avid reader, who loved crossword puzzles and listening to country western music, especially George Jones. She also took pleasure in watching birds. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert Eugene Cook and her second husband, Dr. John A. Welty. She is survived by her two sons; Mark Cook and his wife Eva of West Terre Haute, and John L. Cook and his wife Debbie of Lincoln, Illinois; a sister, Jean Brown of Matoon, Illinois; five grandchildren, Jeremy Cook and his wife, Jennifer, of Springfield, Il, Misty Johnson and her husband, Zach, of Terre Haute, Jodi Cook of Mt. Polaski, Illinois, T.J. Cook, Clint Cook, both of Lincoln, Illinois, Ashley Waggoner of Terre Haute, and Chris Waggoner and his wife, Rebecca. She is also survived by a nephew, Mike Brown of Mattoon, Illinois and two very special friends, Duane Kennett and Kevin Kennett. Services will be held Friday, February 6, 2015 at 2: 00 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47804, with visitation at 12:00 p.m. until service time.
