Dorothy was a homemaker and also helped her husband with farming duties. She was often in the fields and during harvest, hauled truck loads of grain to Handy Feed and Grain in Millstadt, Illinois. She also loved to sew and was an avid furniture refinisher. She loved to go to local auctions, purchasing antiques that had seen better days, restoring them to beautiful pieces, many of which remain in the family. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Floraville, Illinois, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a devoted Christian and a firm believer in our Lord, Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband, Homer Etling; two daughters Susan Garland (Larry) of Millstadt, Illinois and Gwen Wessel (Glenn) of Terre Haute, Indiana; three granddaughters Sarah D’Atri (Joshua) of Millstadt, Illinois, Adrienne Polite (Nathan) of Marietta, Georgia, and Amanda Metternich of Indianapolis, Indiana; four great grandchildren Olivia and Emma D’Atri and Mia and Max Polite. Per Dorothy’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service to honor her life will be held at a later date in St. Paul United Church of Christ in Floraville, Illinois. Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff at Springhill Village in Terre Haute, Indiana for their wonderful, loving care during Dorothy’s 12 day stay with them; also Gentiva Hospice of Terre Haute, Indiana for their kind and exceptional service. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s memory to St. Paul United Church of Christ in Floraville, Illinois.
