Melvin Edward Holton, 70, of Terre Haute, passed away in his residence with his loving family by his side on November 23, 2014. He was born on April 15, 1944 to Clarence Holton and Harriet (Bixby) Holton in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Melvin served in the United State Army for 2 years. He was a member of Northside Christian Church for 30 years. He was a heavy equipment operator and traveled all over the United States. He collected coins and antiques. Melvin owned an antique shop in Terre Haute for 5 years. He was known for keeping his word, much like his father. Melvin had a strong work ethic, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother Iva Holton. He is survived by his wife of 2 years Nancy (Pigg) Holton; son James Holton; daughters Valarie Osowski, Lisa Cassidy, and her husband John; brothers Charles Holton, Leslie Holton, Walter Holton, Larry Homme, Lowell Homme, and Dennis Macklin; sisters Margaret Hegland, Anita Copper, Patricia Holton, Linda Garwood, Cheryl Holton, Janice Mallo, Francine Homme, and Aleta Homme; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, stepchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be on Tuesday November 25, 2014 at 11:00a.m. in North Terre Haute North Christian Church, 3133 E Park Avenue, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47805. Pastor Matt Larimer will be officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 10:00a.m. until service time. Burial will be on Friday in Butterfield Cemetery in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. The family has entrusted Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804 with arrangements.
